This is an ornate and highly decorative map illustrates Independent Tartary which are the modern day ex Soviet Union southwest countries including Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, etc.  The map shows a large Aral sea, which is now virtually gone due to Soviet era over-irrigation in the area.  The map features three vignettes and fancy borders of the Tallis style.  The steel engraved map illustrates the Bride chase, a tartar custom, Horsemen and the nomadic tent.  Engraved by J. Rapkin.
