Nice late 17 century engraved map of the Americas with unusual and attractive coloring scheme. A nice extra large California as an Island is one of the geographic oddities. Terra Esonis, a land mass north of California stretches nearly to Japan. The inland of North America is taking shape in this map, although the Great Lakes and the Mississippi are still not quite correct. Another feature is R. Massourite (Missouri) appearing in this map. Lower left features a decorative title cartouche showing an Amazonian queen surrounded by riches, a sugar cane field and exotic animals. Inset in the cartouche is a small map of the coast of New Zealand. In South America the major river systems are beginning to take their proper shape. There are several islands shown in the Pacific.
