Bellin's map, reissued by Homann heirs, of the Great Lakes region is a cartographic landmark. It introduces the islands in Lake Superior, some of which do not exist, which would remain on maps for about a century. The map captures the French knowledge of this region via explorers -- the river systems, French forts and settlements, and some Indian Villages.
