This is a fantastic map of Ceylon (Sri Lanka), the 'Pearl of the Sea'.  Extraordinary detail is provided of color outlined political subdivisions, towns, lakes and rivers, and topography. There are 5 intricate engraved vignettes in the traditional Tallis style -- Lake of Kandy, Adam's Peak, Colombo, the ruins of a Dagoba at Toopharamaya, and the Temple of Buddha, Kalany. The map was engraved by J Rapkin.
