A highly decorative nineteenth century map of the African continent colored to show the colonial possessions and major tribal kingdoms. The interior is mostly void of detail. The map, as with other Levasseur maps, is surrounded by hand colored, steel-engraved scenes.  Africa including the pyramids, a camel, wild animals, natives, the French army and vignettes of Alexandria, Cairo, and Algier.  Population statistics are shown on the pyramids.
